"Lake Effect"ive, Geneva Takes Two From Myers in Cleveland

Cleveland, OH - One day after sweeping a home doubleheader from Myers University, Geneva′s baseball team went to the Lake and turned the trick one more time. Geneva defeated Myers 11-1 and 13-1 on Saturday to improve its record to 14-11 on the season.

In game one, Geneva took just six innings to pick up the 10-run mercy victory. A seven-run second inning started the fun for Geneva′s offense, which added four more throughout the game. Andy Hiskey led the way with five RBI′s in game one, while Hiskey and Dan DeMarco each collected a pair of hits. Brandon Baughman went the distance for the victory in allowing just one unearned runs on three hits. Baughman struck out five and walked one in the victory.

It took a bit longer for Geneva′s offense to get on track in game two, but the Golden Tornadoes broke open a scoreless tie with five runs in the fifth and put the game away with an eight-spot in the seventh inning. Hiskey collected two more hits and two more RBI′s in game two. Geneva′s five run fifth was sparked by a bases clearing double off the bat of Rob Arata. Arata, Matt Colella, Mike Bruno and Hiskey each had two hits.

Dave Foss pitched all seven innings for the victory. He allowed just two hits three base runners in his outing. Foss pitched just two batters over the minimum in striking out eight batters. Foss retired eighteen consecutive hitters after allowing a lead-off single in the first inning.

Geneva will host Alderson-Broaddus in a single game on Monday and will then welcome Bethany for one game on Tuesday afternoon.
