Edgewood, KY – Geno DeMarco took over Geneva′s program at the start of the 1993 season. In his first game as head coach, DeMarco guided the Golden Tornadoes to a 10-9 victory over William Patterson to start the beginning of a new era. Fifteen years later, DeMarco picked up career victory #100 when Geneva defeated Thomas More on Saturday by the identical 10-9 score. DeMarco, Geneva′s winningest coach in its 118-year history, watched his club move to 5-2 with yet another impressive defensive effort.

Geneva′s defense entered the weekend as the top ranked unit in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference. On Saturday, it once again showed people why as the defense held Thomas More to just 127 total yards. The Saints managed just 21 yards of total offense, while Geneva got its running game clicking again thanks to the legs of Bobby Bondi. Bondi rushed for a team best 77 yards, but managed just 82 yards on 10-28 passing. Bondi did hook-up for one touchdown, which proved to be all Geneva′s defense would need.

The game opened with Thomas More taking the opening kick-off and rushing the ball down the field on just five plays. Joey Zurhusen found Nick Dew for a 33-yard pass play to put the Saints on top just 1:47 into the game.

In the second quarter, Nick DiPietro closed the gap with a 23 yard field goal, but prior to the halftime whistle, Bondi got sacked by TMC′s Brandon Kohrs for a safety that stretched the lead to 9-3.

Late in the third quarter, Geneva went on a 12 play, 68 yard drive to ultimately get the game winning score. With Bondi doing most of the work with his legs, it was his arm on a five-yard pass to Luke Duriancik that put Geneva on top to stay. Thomas More got a few more chances to score, but late in the game it was Brian Wilson′s two sacks that made the difference and Geneva′s defense came up big yet again.

Adam Rose led the defense on the stat. sheet with a team best ten tackles and two sacks. Greg Eberhart and Zach Feltrop were each credited with eight tackles to help Geneva′s cause.

Geneva will close out the regular season with three straight home games beginning with a date against Saint Vincent College next Saturday night at Reeves Stadium with the kick-off set for 6:30 p.m.
