TEN HONORED BY PAC WITH FOOTBALL
COACHES HONORS
Beaver Falls, PA - It would be easy to say Geneva′s first season as a member of NCAA Division III and the Presidents′ Athletic Conference was a ringing success. Finishing the regular season with an 8-2 record and advancing to its fifth NCCAA Victory Bowl, Geneva′s football team had much to celebrate in 2007. As a result of the success, the PAC announced its All-Conference team and ten members of Geneva′s team were selected with Coaches Honors.
Because Geneva remains in its NCAA provisional stage, its players were not eligible for All-Conference honors, but several were selected by the PAC coaches for their outstanding contributions in 2007.
On offense, seniors Tony Banks (OL) and Bobby Bondi (QB) received honors, while junior Luke Duriancik (WR) and sophomore Matt Dean (HB) were also selected. Defensively, senior linebackers Brad Roman and Greg Eberhart topped the list. Junior linebacker Zach Feltrop was also selected, along with sophomores Rich Kolesar (FS) and Brian Wilson (DE). In addition, senior punter Andy Stopchick was also listed.
While Banks built the framework around a veteran offensive line, Bondi enjoyed his first full season at the quarterback position. Bondi threw for 1446 yards and ten touchdowns while also rushing for 402 yards and four scores. Luke Duriancik was Bondi′s favorite target with 36 receptions for 350 yards and two touchdowns.
In his first season on offense, Dean led the Golden Tornadoes in rushing with 586 yards and four touchdowns with an impressive 4.7 yards per carry.
Geneva′s defense finished number one in the PAC and most of the credit should go to this group of players led by seniors Roman and Eberhart. Roman had 92 tackles, including 12.0 tackles for loss. Meanwhile, Eberhart had 72 tackles and an incredible six blocked kicks. Feltrop led Geneva′s defense with 105 tackles, including four sacks and a pair of interceptions. Kolesar finished with a team best three interceptions. Perhaps the most impressive numbers were put up by Brian Wilson, who had 26.5 tackles for loss, including 13 sacks.
Finally, Andy Stopchick was perhaps Geneva′s most improved player as he posted a 38.0 yard punting average, including 21 punts inside the 20 yard line.
