GENEVADOESN′T RUST-PROOF, UNDEFEATED
SEASON ENDS

Greensburg, PA -It had been nearly three full weeks since head coach Ron Galbreath saw Geneva′s women′s basketball team in action. With its last game coming on December 15th, the Golden Tornadoes tried to shake off the holiday rust against a very good Pitt-Greensburg team, but came up on the short end of a 68-58 decision. The loss ended Geneva′s undefeated season and nine game winning streak and dropped the Golden Tornadoes to 9-1 on the season. Pitt-Greensburg improved to 9-2 with the victory.

Geneva shot just 32% from the field for the game, including just seven field goals in the second half. The Golden Tornadoes trailed 39-30 at halftime and cut the lead to just four points early in the second half. However, UPG quickly responded with a huge run of its own and twice had the deficit up over 20 points. Despite the loss, Geneva did manage to out rebound UPG mainly because of the efforts of senior forward Allyson Clarke. Clarke pulled down a career best 21 rebounds to go along with 16 points for her sixth double-double of the season. Offensively, Geneva was led by Renee Rawding′s 23 points, including 6-12 from three-point range. Unfortunately, the rest of Geneva′s team was 1-9 from three-point range for the game.

Meanwhile, UPG was lighting up its home court by going 9-16 from long range and shooting a solid 42% as a team for the game. Tiffany Menhorn and Mary Cook led the way with 17 points each in the victory.

Geneva will get back on its home court on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Saint Vincent College at 2 pm. The Golden Tornadoes will host Chatham next Wednesday before beginning a stretch of six out of seven games on the road through the month of January.
