UPSET ALERT, GROVECITYUPENDS
GENEVA

Grove City, PA - It had been 16 years since Grove City defeated Geneva on its home floor in women′s basketball. On Saturday afternoon, the Wolverines ended their streak of futility with a 54-45 victory over Geneva. The Golden Tornadoes lost for just the third time all season and fell to 14-3 on the season. Meanwhile, Grove City stretched its winning streak to four games for the first time in three years in improving to 7-10 on the year.

Geneva started quickly and scored nine of the first 11 points to take a 9-2 lead just four minutes into the contest. Grove City took control with a 13-2 run of its own to take a 15-11 lead at the 11:04 mark of the first half. The Golden Tornadoes were able to regain control and took a 26-22 lead into the locker room. Renee Rawding led the first half charge with 12 points on 4-4 shooting from three-point range.

The second half, however, turned out to be a different story for Rawding and the Golden Tornadoes. Geneva′s leading scorer managed just two free throws in the second half to finish the game with 14 points. Meanwhile, the Wolverines regained control of the game and finally went ahead for good at the 4:29 mark on Brittany Anderson′s lay-up that gave them a 41-40 lead. Grove City finished the game on a 15-5 run and handed Geneva its third loss of the season, all of which have come on the road.

In addition to Rawding′s 14 points, Geneva got a game high 18 points from Allyson Clarke to go along with six rebounds. Christine Slater, a graduate of Center High School, led the Wolverines with 12 points and nine rebounds off the bench. Brittany Anderson finished the game with 10 points before fouling out late in the second half.

Geneva will try to rebound on Wednesday night when it plays its fourth straight road game at Washington & Jefferson. The Golden Tornadoes will finally return home next Saturday to host Bethany College.
