FLETCHER EARNS SILVER, GENEVAWOMEN
SOLID AT WESTERN PACHAMPIONSHIPS
Pittsburgh, PA - In what was the first competitive meet of the spring for Geneva′s track and field team, the Golden Tornadoes were led by the women′s team at the Western Pennsylvania Championships at Carnegie Mellon University.
Stealing the spotlight was 2007 national qualifier Susan Fletcher, who gave a solid effort in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a second place finish. Fletcher posted a time of 11:52.85, while teammate Marsha Miller finished seventh in the same event with a time of 13:04.55. Geneva′s Tiffany Bear had a solid day in three separate events. She finished eighth overall in the 200 meter race with a posted time of 27.23. Moving her attention to the field events, she put up a pair of 12th place finishes in the shot put and discus. Kelsey Anderson posted a 12th place finish in the 100 meter hurdles and a 15th place spot in the 400 meter hurdles.
Geneva′s distance runners were also competitive on Saturday, including Rebecca VanRegenmorter′s sixth place showing in the 5000 meter race with a time of 19:11.81. Sarah Davis and Nicole Okerlund both posted top 20 finishes in the 1500 meter event.
In men′s action, Geneva′s highlights included a pair of top 20′s for Josh Johnson in the 110 meter hurdles and 400 meter hurdles. In the 400 meter hurdle event, Luke Duriancik gained Geneva′s lone top ten on the men′s side with a time of 1:00.14. On the field, Dan Dillman finished with a pair of top 15 performances in the discus and shot put.
Geneva′s track team will head to Mt. Union College next Saturday before returning home to the Merriman Athletic Complex for a home quadrangular meet on April 9th.
