1500 METER FUN, GENEVA WOMEN SHINE IN MIDDLE DISTANCE, FRACTION IMPRESSES IN SPRINT EVENTS

Moon Twp, PA - A key to success is establishing the strengths of your team as quickly as possible. Three weeks into the outdoor season, Geneva′s track and field team have already established its strengths. For the women′s team, the Golden Tornadoes will continue to rely on impressive middle distance performances. On the men′s side, a freshman has started to impress the competition in the sprinting events. Those strengths were both on display on Saturday as Geneva′s track team competed at Robert Morris University.

Geneva′s women had success across the board in the middle distance events, but it was the 1500 meter race where they took control of the field. Led by a first place finish from Susan Fletcher, the Golden Tornadoes placed four runners in the top eight positions. Fletcher posted a time of 4:59.16, while teammates Rebecca VanRegenmorter (4), Laura Seyler (5) and Sarah Davis (8) all turned in solid performances. VanRegnmorter had another solid outing in the 800 meter event with a fifth place finish at 2:27.63, while Fletcher crossed the line in eighth position.

In the women′s sprinting events, the sister combination of Carolyn and Kathleen Bolton turned in a good day. Carolyn placed eighth in the 100 meter event, while Kathleen finished sixth in the 400 meter race. Jamie Williams turned in a pair of top performances in the 200 meter race (11) and the long jump (7). On the field, Tiffany Bear placed 3rd in the javelin with a final toss of 38.68 meters.

Freshman Corey Fraction has continued to improve in the sprinting events throughout the early season. On Saturday, Fraction turned in a pair of top ten performances in the 100 meter (8) and the 200 meter (6) events. In the distance events, it was the Falk brothers who performed well for the Golden Tornadoes. Phil Falk was fifth in the 5000 meter event with a time of 17:19.68, while Josh Falk finished third in the 3000 meter steeplechase at 11:03.32.

Dan Dillman once again was Geneva′s lone bright spot in the field events with a ninth place showing in the shot put and an 8th place finish in the discus.
