BEARANDDURIANCIK SHINE AT NCCAA NATIONAL MEET, GENEVAPOSTS SEVEN TOP TENS

Marion, IN - It was a long two days for multi-event athletes Tiffany Bear and Luke Duriancik at the NCCAA national track and field meet over the weekend. Although it was long, it turned out to be quite rewarding as both athletes posted top five finishes in their respective multi-events.

Bear, who also competed individually in the javelin event, placed second in the heptathlon with 4218 points. In the midst of her second place finish, she placed first in the 200 meter event and second in the javelin. In individual action, Bear took home a fourth place finish in the javelin with a distance of 117-10.

Bear′s teammates represented themselves quite well on the national stage with a total of four top ten finishes. Geneva′s 4 x 800 relay team of Susan Fletcher, Nicole Okerlund, Laura Seyler and Rebecca VanRegenmorter placed sixth overall. Fletcher also took home a fifth place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:12.12. Beth Bartolomeo finished eighth in the 10000 meter event, while Kelsey Anderson advanced to the final heat of the 100 meter hurdles and finished ninth overall.

In men′s action, Luke Duriancik finished fifth overall in his first ever national attempt in the decathlon. Duriancik finished with 5284 points, including two second place finishes in the 100 meter event and 110 meter hurdles. Freshman Cory Fraction finished 11th in the 100 meter dash.

"I am very proud of our effort," said head coach Bret Otte. "Not only the kids at the national meet, but everyone in the program worked extremely hard to improve all year. We have certainly built something special to build upon in the future."
