POST-SEASON HONORS ANNOUNCED AS GENEVA
CONTINUES WAITING GAME

Beaver Falls, PA - Patience can be a hard thing in athletics. For the Geneva College baseball team, it is hoping that its patience will be a virtue as the Golden Tornadoes are in the midst of a two-week lay-off prior to the start of the NCCAA national tournament in Struthers, Oh. Geneva closed out the regular season with a doubleheader split against Point Park on May 5th and it will have to wait until at least May 21st to begin tournament play. Geneva, which will host the national tournament for the second straight year, finished the regular season with an overall record of 16-16.

While the team hasn′t hit the field in over a week, it did receive some good news with the announcements of the PAC All-Conference team and the NCCAA All-Region team.

Geneva′s Tadd Eyster and Derek Sumner were both awarded PAC Coaches Honors as an equivalent to the All-Conference team. Eyster led Geneva′s offense for most of the season and finished his junior campaign with an average of .375 and a team best in hits (45), runs scored (31) and stolen bases (14). On the mound, Sumner completed a stellar regular season with a 6-3 record and a new single season strikeout record of 78 punch outs in just under 70 innings of work.

The NCCAA All-East region team included sophomore catcher Joe Jurinko and senior pitcher Justin Montgomery. In his first year with the Golden Tornadoes, Jurinko hit .337 with three home runs and 16 RBI′s. Meanwhile, Montgomery broke Geneva′s career record for saves as he picked up four saves in 15 appearances and posted a 3.46 ERA.

Honorable mention selections included Sumner, Eyster, Joel Gatti, Andy Lubich, Andy Hiskey and Dave Foss.

Geneva will await the announcement of the NCCAA tournament brackets early next week, which will include a 10-team field in a double elimination format.
