BEAVER FALLS, Pa. –Hollywood had nothing on Geneva – or so some people on campus might say, following Geneva′s annual Film Fest on Friday, April 25. The event, attended by hundreds of students dressed up for the occasion, was held at Metheny Fieldhouse.

Award contenders were written, directed and produced by Geneva students. Students, professors and staff made appearances in the movies, all in hopes of entertaining the audience and taking home an award.

Each year, the Student Activities Office plans events to bring the student community together, as well as offer a study break from the busy week. Film Fest is one such event coordinated by Student Activities that offers students′ commentaries on anything from life on campus to pop culture. Including video submissions and input from the campus, was a two-hour event.

Film Fest may be an alternative to weekend activities, but it is also a way to communicate the spirit of the campus. Film Fest participant Ryan Cerbus, sees the importance of Film Fest being the communication of important ideas through film. “Especially with the rise of social video sites, such as YouTube, video is becoming the medium for the dissemination of new ideas to the masses.”

Participating movies are also judged and awarded for best performances, directing, and quality of presentation. The award categories are Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director/Producer, Best Drama, Best Comedy, Best Film not Drama or Comedy, Best Special Effects, Best Soundtrack, Best Cameo Appearance, and the People′s Choice Award.
