OFFENSE REMAINS QUIET IN 1-0 LOSS TO PITT-BRADFORD
Beaver Falls, PA- Geneva′s women′s soccer team had its offense going in the right direction with five goals in the first two matches of the season. The Golden Tornadoes returned home this week and for the second straight match were unable to find the net. Geneva dropped a 1-0 decision to Pitt-Bradford on Saturday to even its overall record at 2-2.
While Geneva′s offense has been stagnant this week, Pitt-Bradford had an offense that was non-existent until today. UPB had not scored a goal in its first three matches and brought an 0-3 record in the Merriman Athletic Complex.
All that changed just two minutes into the second half when Lindsay Sherman beat goalkeeper Lauren Londino for the only goal of the game. Sherman had an even better chance to score 13th minutes later when Londino turned away a breakaway opportunity and then saved Sherman′s rebound. Despite Londino′s heroics in the net, Geneva could not finish off several good offensive chances. Ariel Lilly had the best chance for Geneva in the second half when she fired a shot from inside of ten yards only to be turned away by Pitt-Bradford′s Autumn Zigarski. Zigarski earned the victory and the shut-out by stopping all nine of Geneva′s shots on goal. Londino stopped seven shots, but it was the one shot by Sherman early in the first half that proved to be the difference.
Geneva will get a full week off before getting back into game action. The Golden Tornadoes will host Medaille College next Saturday beginning at 2 pm.
