PAC COACHES TAKE NOTE OF GENEVA TURNAROUND,
11 PLAYERS RECEIVE POST-SEASON HONORS
Beaver Falls, PA - It was a turnaround for the ages as Geneva′s football team started the season with a record of 1-5 and was able to close out the campaign with four straight victories and a record of 5-5. It is clear that the coaches throughout the Presidents′ Athletic Conference took note of the turnaround as they selected 11 Geneva players for post-season conference honors.
Because Geneva is still in provisional phase for the next two years, its players are not yet eligible for All-Conference selections, however, Geneva players can receive PAC Coaches Honors. On Monday, in a vote of the PAC coaches, the Golden Tornadoes received 11 selections as post-season Coaches Honors.
Geneva′s offense received the majority of the selections with seven players being honored. Sophomore quarterback David Girardi (St. Petersburg, FL) topped the list of offensive selections. In just his first season as a starter, Girardi posted a 54% completion rate with 1474 yards and ten touchdowns. In the backfield, sophomores Matt Barge (New Castle, PA) and Gerard Muschette (Lusby, MD) were both selected. Muschette led the Geneva running game with 719 yards and five touchdowns. He posted an average of 6.1 yards per carry. Barge, in his first season with the Golden Tornadoes, rushed for 633 yards and four touchdowns. He led Geneva with 132 carries on the ground.
Leading the way for that rushing attack was offensive lineman Lee Thieroff (Avella, PA), who was the only lineman selected for the Golden Tornadoes. Receiver Brian Dvorsak (Beaver Falls, PA) and tight end Adam Chatlos (New Stanton, PA) were also honorees. Dvorsak led Geneva with 464 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Chatlos enjoyed his best collegiate season with 25 receptions for 286 yards. Freshman receiver and kick returner AJ Delmonico (Beaver Falls, PA) was also selected as a kick returner. He averaged almost 22 yards per kick-off return including an 88 yard touchdown return against Grove City.
Geneva′s defense was a solid unit all season and received four post-season coaching honorees. Linebackers Zach Feltop (Beaver Falls, PA) and Aaron Tommelleo (New Castle, PA) were both selected. Feltrop led Geneva in tackles for the third consecutive season. He finished with 90 tackles, including seven tackles for loss. Tommelleo registered 66 tackles on the season. Adam Rose (Freedom, PA) was Geneva′s lone defensive lineman selected. He put up very impressive numbers with a team best 11.5 tackles for loss and five sacks. In the secondary, Rich Kolesar (Uniontown, PA) was also a coach′s honoree selection with 34 tackles, one interception and a team best 14 pass break-ups.
