MEMORABLE SEASON COMES TO A CLOSE

AT ROBERTS WESLEYAN

Rochester, NY - For head coach Linda Sumner and the Geneva women′s soccer team a trip to Roberts Wesleyan for the NCCAA Eastern Regional tournament was simply icing on the cake after a memorable season. That season came to a close on Friday evening as the Golden Tornadoes dropped a 4-0 decision to Roberts Wesleyan, who will move on to Saturday′s championship against Mt. Vernon Nazarene. The loss dropped Geneva to 8-5-5 for the season, which was a far cry from the 2-15 campaign that Sumner and the Golden Tornadoes suffered through in 2007.

A solid mix of veterans and talented freshmen proved to be the recipe for the Golden Tornadoes to turn things around and set the framework for one of the upcoming teams in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference.

On Friday night, Geneva watched a talented Roberts Wesleyan team jump out quickly with three first half goals in less than desirable weather conditions. With temperatures hovering in the mid-20′s and a light snow falling, both teams were subject to a tough night. Geneva was able to hold the Raider attack somewhat in check in the final 45 minutes by allowing just one tally for the final 4-0 score.

Roberts Wesleyan controlled the pace of the game for the entire 90 minutes and Geneva did not generate many scoring chances throughout the entire match. Lauren Londino, Geneva′s sensational sophomore goalkeeper allowed a season high four goals. Despite the loss on Friday, Londino will enter the Geneva record books with her 11 shut-outs, a single season record for the Golden Tornadoes.
