BEARCAT BLITZ, GENEVA FALLS AT SAINT VINCENT

Latrobe, PA - Geneva′s men′s basketball team dropped an 80-68 decision to Saint Vincent College on Saturday night and lost for the eighth time in nine tries. The Golden Tornadoes fell to 2-8 on the season as Geneva watched Saint Vincent trap its way to a 10-2 overall record with an impressive defensive effort the forced the Golden Tornadoes into 20 turnovers. "We really wanted to focus on our defensive effort," said head coach Jeff Santarsiero. "We did a better job against what I feel is the best team in the conference, but you can′t win when you turn over the ball 20 times."

Saint Vincent led from wire to wire and opened up a 42-31 lead at the half. The Bearcats scored 12 of the first 18 points of the second half and never looked back. Geneva cut the lead to 12 points at the buzzer, but was never able to get the game into single digits. "They (Saint Vincent) are solid from top to bottom," said Santarsiero. "They really don′t have any holes in their team and I truly believe they are the best team in the conference."

Geneva shot the ball well at 46% for the game, but watched Saint Vincent make 29-58 shots, including 9-17 from three-point range. Richard Colick scored a game high 24 points and a team best seven rebounds. Dave Phillips was the only other Geneva player to post double figures with ten points.

Saint Vincent featured a balanced scoring attack with four players in double figures led by Joe Butler′s 22 points. Butler also had nine assists and five rebounds. Tresor Kalambay added 17 points, including 5-6 from outside three-point range.

The Golden Tornadoes will remain on the road next Thursday when they travel to long-time NAIA rival Malone College. Geneva will return home next Saturday to host Waynesburg University at 7:30 pm.
