16th RANKED THOMAS MORE ENDS THREE-GAME

WIN STREAK

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva College′s women′s basketball team knew it would have to deal with an unruly Thomas More club on Wednesday night. The 16th ranked Saints were coming off their first conference loss in two years at Washington & Jefferson on Saturday. The Golden Tornadoes did not make it easy for the defending conference champions, but the Saints were able to come away with a 77-59 victory. The loss dropped Geneva′s record to 7-6 while Thomas More improved to 12-2.

Thomas More ran out to a 16-2 lead just six minutes into the game, but the Golden Tornadoes put together a 12-0 run to get back into the contest. Geneva actually got to within one point at 19-18 before the Saints once again rallied to take a 38-22 lead into the halftime locker room. Thomas More twice opened up leads of 21 points as they were able to hold off a very determined Geneva club.

Geneva shot just 29% from the field for the game, including just eight first half field goals. The Golden Tornadoes did most of their damage from the foul line where they ended the night at 18-21. Michawn Rich and Rachel Barry each had 13 points to lead the offense while Beth DeLuca picked up ten points for her fourth consecutive double digit effort.

The Saints used a balanced attack including a game high 20 points from Nicole Dickman. Dickman was 8-15 from the field while also pulling down a game high 11 rebounds. Jayme Thiem, the defending PAC player of the year, was held to ten points, but she also chipped in with six rebounds and six assists.

The Golden Tornadoes will head back out to the road on Saturday for a 1:00 pm matinee against Thiel College. Geneva will begin a three-game homestand next Wednesday when they host long-time rival Westminster College at 5:30 pm.
