VANREGENMORTER BECOMES FOURTH INDOOR
NATIONAL QUALIFIER FOR GOLDEN TORNADOES

Slippery Rock, PA - Geneva College′s indoor track and field team traveled to Slippery Rock University on Friday for the SRU Open and came away with its fourth national qualifier for the NCCAA national meet in two weeks. Senior distance runner Rebecca VanRegenmorter qualified for the first time in her career for the indoor nationals with her effort in the 1600 meter race.

VanRegenmorter posted a time of 5:31.78, which was good enough for eighth place overall and a trip to Cedarville University for the national meet on February 21st. She also gave a strong performance in the 800 meter event with a seventh place finish. VanRegenmorter becomes the first female athlete to qualify for nationals, but joins her male counterparts Dan Dillman (Shot put), Stephen Polite (Long Jump) and Corey Fraction (55 meter) as national qualifiers.

Kelsey Anderson gave a strong performance for Geneva on Friday in the 55 meter hurdles. She posted a time of 9.92 to qualify for the final heat and then finished eighth overall with her finals time of 9.82. She finished just 2/10 of a second away from qualifying for the national meet.

Other highlights on the men′s side including Dan Dillman′s 12th place finish in the shot-put and top ten performances by Corey Fraction in the 55 meter race and by Bobby Rex in the 200 meter event.

The Golden Tornadoes will get one more opportunity to add to the list of national qualifiers next Friday when they travel to Baldwin-Wallace. The NCCAA national indoor meet will be at Cedarville University on February 21st. Geneva College will open its outdoor track and field season at home on March 20-21.
