LOSING STREAK REACHES SIX AT WAYNESBURG

Waynesburg, PA - Geneva College′s women′s basketball team was looking to put an end to its longest losing streak of the season but the Golden Tornadoes saw their slide move to six games after a 65-58 loss to Waynesburg University on Wednesday night. The Golden Tornadoes fell to 8-13 on the season while the Yellow Jackets improved to 8-14.

The Golden Tornadoes maintained a lead throughout the first ten minutes of the game, but Waynesburg finished the half with ten of the last 12 points to take a 33-25 lead at the half. Waynesburg quickly extended its lead and sprinted out to a 17 point second half advantage. Geneva College rallied and on two occasions got within four points but was never able to take the lead.

Michawn Rich once again paced the offensive production with 23 point on 9-17 shooting. She was also 5-6 from the foul line and led the team with eight rebounds and four steals. Rich got some help from Rachel Barry who posted 13 points in the loss. Waynesburg was led by Callie White′s 24 points and Elisha Jones, who scored 18 in the victory, including four free throws in the final minutes to put the game away.

Geneva College will head to Kentucky this weekend to take on 13th ranked Thomas More College in a 1 pm matinee. The Golden Tornadoes return to Metheny Fieldhouse next Wednesday for the home finale against Thiel College.
