A RICH NIGHT, SENIOR CLOSES HOME CAREER IN STYLE

Beaver Falls, PA - It was senior night on College Hill on Wednesday night and Michawn Rich had the spotlight all to herself. The only senior on Geneva′s women′s roster carried her Golden Tornadoes team, much as she has done for most of the season, to a 70-46 victory over Thiel College and putting an end to their seven game losing streak. The Golden Tornadoes improved to 9-14 with the convincing victory that forced a season split with the Tomcats.

Michawn Rich had many family and friends in attendance, including her parents that arrived from Reno, Nevada earlier in the day. The trip proved to be well worth it as the senior put on a show with 19 points and 17 rebounds. It was her 10th double-double of the season as she helped the Golden Tornadoes to their first victory since January 21. The lone senior got much help from her teammates including a 14 point performance from Rachel Barry. Freshman Beth DeLuca added 13 points, including a pair of three point field goals.

The Golden Tornadoes opened a 32-18 lead at the half and were able to outscore the Tomcats 38-28 in the second half. Thiel got the game to within seven points on two occasions but were unable to draw any closer. Thiel managed just eight field goals in the first half and was 1-10 from three-point range for the game. Rianne Thornton and Kim Stitt each scored ten points in the loss.

The Golden Tornadoes will take to the road on Saturday for the final game of the season. Geneva College visits New Wilmington to take on Westminster College at 2 pm.
