Geneva College is entering the home stretch of the Beyond the Bend campus improvement project. With only six months to go, the end is in sight but there is still much to do.

As part of this phase of construction, the campus community will experience a major change in traffic flow. On Monday, February 23, the main college entrance at 31st Street will close.

31st Street at the light will close temporarily to allow for construction of the landmark archway and new entrance boulevard. Our goal is to complete the new entrance, the boulevard, the rotary in front of Old Main, and the road in front of Reeves Field in time for commencement on May 16.

In the meantime, the construction will disrupt the regular traffic flow for students, faculty, staff and visitors. We regret this temporary inconvenience and ask for your continued patience and cooperation.

The temporary entrance to the Geneva College campus from Route 18 will be 35th Street, and then a right onto College Avenue. From College, the traffic flow can still turn left at Pearce Hall to go to the lower side of campus, or go straight in front of Alexander Hall. Both the Alumni Hall and Freshman parking lots will be open and accessible during this phase of construction. While 31st Street is under construction, a crossover will allow access from one parking lot to another.

People exiting the campus during this phase of construction should follow College Avenue north, and then make a left on either 36th or 38th to Route 18.

After this phase of construction ends on May 18, the final phase will begin. This will include the creation of the pedestrian walkway, and expansion and renovation of Alumni Hall parking lot. At that time, 31st Street will be open again as the main entrance and exit to campus. Alumni parking lot, which will be under construction, will be closed. Freshman parking lot will be open.

Also, part of College Avenue, starting near Old Main and going northbound in front of Alexander to the parking lot at College Hill RP Church, will be closed for construction to create the pedestrian walkway. No traffic will be allowed into this area. We will provide more information on this final stage of construction in coming weeks and months.

The entire Beyond the Bend project is expected to be completed in August.

I thank the Lord that this project, which was a dream of so many for so long, is now nearing completion. Our Father is good indeed!

Blessings,

Jim Prince
Vice President of Operations
