GENEVA COMES UP ON SHORT END OF SLUGFEST

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva and Westminster combined for 25 runs on Wednesday in a slugfest between two long-time rivals. Unfortunately, the Titans got the best of the Golden Tornadoes in a 14-11 final score. The Titans scored runs in sixth consecutive innings from the second through the seventh innings, including a four run sixth, to open up a 14-4 lead into the bottom of the sixth. Geneva rallied back to within three runs, but could not complete the comeback.

Trailing 14-10 heading into the bottom of the ninth, Geneva opened the frame with consecutive singles from Adam Scheiderer and Joel Gatti. Andy Lubich followed with a rope to right center field that was nabbed on a spectacular catch, which was quickly turned into a double play while Scheiderer scored. The double play put an abrupt end to Geneva′s comeback threat.

Both teams banged out 16 hits on the day. For Geneva, Tadd Eyster led the charge with a 4-5 effort, while Joel Gatti collected three hits and teammates Jon Jurinko, Scheiderer, Derek Sumner and Justin McGurgan each had two hits. Phil Shallenberger started the game on the mound and lasted only five innings. He allowed six earned runs on ten hits. Mike Trn was solid in relief with three innings of work and only one earned run allowed.

Geneva will open a three game series with Waynesburg with a single road game on Friday. The two teams will hook up on Saturday at Geneva for a doubleheader beginning at 1 pm.
