PAIR OF PITCHING GEMS ONLY GOOD ENOUGH FOR SPLIT

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s pitching duo of Ashley Archer and Rebekah Wahl combined for 27 strikeouts on Thursday but you need runs to win and the Golden Tornadoes only scored enough to gain a split against Waynesburg. Geneva took game one by the score of 6-1 and then dropped a 3-2 decision in the night cap. The split moved Geneva to 23-13 on the season.

Archer took a perfect game into the sixth inning and struck out a career high 14 batters in picking up her 12th victory of the season. After allowing a bloop single in the sixth, she yielded a solo home run in the seventh for her only mistake of the game. Geneva′s offense got going early with a pair of runs in the first inning on a two-run double from Amy Pearce. Pearce connected on a two-run single in the second inning to extend the lead to 5-0 after two innings. Martha Adams capped the scoring with a run scoring single in the fourth inning. Geneva had ten hits in the first game including three from Pearce and two each from Adams and Adriane Blake.

Geneva got three of its five hits in the first inning of game two. Pearce got Geneva on the board again with an RBI single and her fifth RBI of the day. For Geneva, the offensive well ran dry after the first inning with the exception of a solo home run from Blake in the sixth inning. Wahl was cruising through the first five innings having allowed only one hit with 11 strikeouts. The sixth inning proved to be Geneva′s undoing as the Yellowjackets stuck for three runs to take a 3-1 lead before Blake′s solo blast cut the lead to one. Wahl finished the game with 13 strikeouts and another hard luck loss.

The Golden Tornadoes travel to Mt Vernon Nazarene on Saturday for a best of three series for the NCCAA Eastern Regional tournament. Geneva closes out the regular season on Tuesday with a home doubleheader against Saint Vincent.
