POWER SURGE, HOME RUN HAPPY G-T′s TAKE TWO FROM TITANS

New Wilmington, PA - Five home runs for the Geneva baseball team highlighted a pair of victories over Westminster College on Thursday. The Golden Tornadoes cruised to victories by the scores of 11-5 and 11-1 to reach the 20-win plateau for the season. Geneva moved to 20-10 on the year with some impressive offensive efforts in New Wilmington.

The Golden Tornadoes exploded out of blocks with an eight run second inning. Geneva six hits in the inning including the first two home runs of the day of the bats of Adam Scheiderer and Derek Sumner. Two more runs in the third and Scheiderer′s second home run of the game in the seventh inning closed out the scoring. The Golden Tornadoes more than enough for starting pitcher and winner Matt Baer who won for the seventh time on the season. He went seven innings and allowed four earned runs on five hits. Baer struck out one in the victory.

Geneva′s offense collected 11 hits in game one including two each from Jon Jurinko, Adam Scheiderer and Noah Medich.

Game two proved to be much of the same for the Geneva bats. The Golden Tornadoes banged out 13 hits including three home runs. Jon Jurinko was a perfect 4-4 in game two and got his team on the board with a solo home run after one out in the first inning. Joel Gatti also hit a home run and collected three hits in the victory. Tadd Eyster capped a five run seventh inning with a lead-off homer.

Derek Sumner pitched a complete game three hitter for his eighth victory of the season. He added to his season and career record with eight more strikeouts.

Geneva opens a three-game series with Thiel College with a single game at home on Friday. The Golden Tornadoes will travel to Thiel for a doubleheader on Saturday.
