WALK-A-THON MAKE-UP GOES AGAINST GENEVA

Grove City, PA – Geneva and Grove City finally made up a previous rain out from back on April 7th. The two teams hooked up in the regular season finale that featured a total of 16 bases on balls with each team walking the other eight times. Grove City got the best of Geneva in a 13-5 final score. The loss was Geneva′s fourth straight and the Golden Tornadoes fell to 22-16 on the season.

Both teams finished off the regular season but both have more work to do. The Wolverines will prepare for the upcoming PAC tournament this weekend while the Golden Tornadoes will wait for the NCCAA national tournament coming up on May 20th.

Geneva sent a skeleton crew to Grove City for the season finale, but it could only generate six hits to go along with eight bases on balls. The Wolverines jumped out to a 7-0 lead before Geneva closed the gap midway through the contest. Geneva cut the lead to 7-4 with three runs in the seventh inning on three bases loaded walks. Mike Trn got the start for Geneva and lasted only 4 1/3 innings after allowing six earned runs on six hits and seven walks.

Phil Shallenberger did the most offensive damage for Geneva with three of the team′s six hits in the ball game. After Geneva cut the lead to 7-4, the Wolverines quickly responded with a combined six runs over the next two innings to regain control of the game.

Geneva will have to wait over two weeks before heading to Southern Ohio for the NCCAA national tournament that runs from May 20-23.
