TOP SEEDED MALONE EXPLODES PAST GENEVA

Mason, OH - It wasn′t a very difficult decision for the NCCAA tournament committee to find the number one seed for the national tournament. Malone University came into the week with an overall record of 44-12 and on Wednesday they upheld the decision to make the Pioneers the top seed. Geneva′s baseball team, which earned the right to face Malone thanks to a 6-1 win over Palm Beach Atlantic earlier in the day, got a firsthand look at the powerful offensive attack featured by Malone. The Pioneers took three innings to get going but they posted 12 runs in the third and fourth innings to cruise past Geneva by the score of 12-0. The loss dropped Geneva to 23-17 and set itself up for a loser′s bracket game on Thursday at 1 pm.

The Golden Tornadoes managed just three singles in the five inning loss to Malone and got just one runner into scoring position in the fifth inning. Matt Baer posted a pair of scoreless innings to start the game before Malone exploded for four runs in the third and eight more tallies in the fourth inning.

Geneva will move to the loser′s bracket and face either Cedarville or Oklahoma Wesleyan who will face off against each other on Thursday morning at 10 am. The Golden Tornadoes will play the winner in their first elimination game of the tournament.
