SEASON ENDS WITH NCCAA TOURNAMENT
LOSS TO CEDARVILLE

Mason, OH – Geneva College′s baseball season came to an abrupt end on Thursday with a 5-2 loss to Cedarville University a second round elimination game at the NCCAA national tournament. The Golden Tornadoes ended their season with a record of 23-18, including a 1-2 mark on the national stage in the past two days.

After a first round victory over Palm Beach Atlantic, the Golden Tornadoes fell to Malone University last night before falling to Cedarville on Thursday afternoon. Geneva jumped out to the lead when Tadd Eyster used his legs to get the Golden Tornadoes on the board. Eyster reached base in the first inning and promptly stole second and third before scoring on a Joel Gatti single. After Cedarville plated three runs in the third inning, Geneva struck for an unearned run in the fourth inning.

Phil Shallenberger took the loss despite a solid starting effort on the hill. Shallenberger went 5 ½ innings and allowed five earned runs on nine hits. Geneva′s offense managed only five hits of its own with three of those coming from ninth place hitter Justin McGurgan. McGurgan was a perfect 3-3 on Thursday to pace the offense.

Cedarville moves on in the loser′s bracket to play the loser of today′s game between Malone and Bluefield. The NCCAA national champion will be crowned on Saturday afternoon.
