Henry Mancini Musical Theatre Awards on campus this Wednesday.Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA will host the 15th annual Henry Mancini Musical Theatre Awards on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at 7 p.m. The event, which recognizes the musical production achievements of high school students in Beaver, Butler and Lawrence counties, will be held in the Metheny Fieldhouse. Tickets are required for this event.

Schools participating in the 2009 Henry Mancini Musical Theatre Awards are: Ambridge; Aliquippa; Beaver County Christian; Beaver; Big Beaver Falls; Center; Freedom; Hopewell; New Brighton; Quigley Catholic; Riverside; Rochester; Shenango; and Western Beaver High School.

Awards will be presented for categories such as Outstanding Male/Female in a Leading Role and  Noteworthy Small Group Performance Student Orchestra to Outstanding Dance Performance, Outstanding Costumes and Outstanding Technical Achievement.  

Sponsored by Geneva College and the McCarl Foundation, the Mancini Awards are a tribute to Henry Mancini (1924-1994) and Foster McCarl Jr. (1923-2007). Besides the honors given out, Geneva College awards a $1,000 scholarship to juniors and seniors who participate in their school′s musical and attend Geneva College the fall after they graduate.

This year, the Henry Mancini Musical Theatre Awards ceremony will include a short performance by B. E. Taylor. Before he presents the Outstanding Noteworthy Individual Awards, he will pay tribute to Henry Mancini by singing one of the composer′s most famous pieces, Moon River. The returning master of ceremonies will be Ian Rosenberger.

Tickets for Wednesday night are on sale for $8 until the morning of the 20th. They can be purchased at the door before the event for $10. Call 724-847-6521 to reserve tickets.
