The Geneva College Master of Arts in Counseling program has announced a 100 percent pass rate for the 12 students who took the National Counselor Examination (NCE) in April 2009. For the first time, the Geneva College mean score was above the national mean score of both accredited and non-accredited programs.

“We're particularly proud of our students this year,” says JoAnn Westover, manager of the M.A. in Counseling program. “It just goes to show that you can learn to be a competent — more than competent — counselor and integrate faith with your studies and practice at the same time.”

The purpose of the NCE is to assess knowledge, skills, and abilities viewed as important for providing effective counseling services. It is intended to assess areas of expertise which should be comprehended by all counselors regardless of their individual professional specialties.

The M.A. in Counseling program offers degrees in marriage and family counseling, mental health counseling, and school counseling. All three programs are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
