Incoming freshmen at Geneva College will be participating in a Community Impact Day on Saturday, August 29. Four hundred new students, divided into groups by majors, will serve at different organizations and churches in the area along with their mentors from their Learning & Transition classes. Donating more than 1,500 hours, the students will be providing about $10,000 worth of service.

Beginning the day at First Presbyterian Church of Beaver Falls, students will hear talks from Terry Noyes of the Next Generation Program and Bill Walder, the Outreach Pastor of Chippewa Evangelical Church, about fulfilling the biblical mandate to serve the surrounding communities. Afterward, the freshmen will travel to their respective locations.

Geneva students will serve at the Salvation Army in Beaver Falls; the First Presbyterian Church of New Brighton; CUP Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Chippewa Twp.; Fishers of Boys in Darlington Twp.; City View Playground in Beaver Falls; Chippewa Alliance Church; Center for Creative Arts Expressions in Beaver Falls; Steffin Hill Presbyterian Church in Beaver Falls; First Reformed Presbyterian Church in Beaver Falls; Christ Episcopal Church in New Brighton; Pine Valley Bible Camp in Ellwood City; Beulah Baptist Church in New Brighton; Chippewa Church of God in Beaver Falls; Christ Lutheran Church in Beaver Falls; Tiger Pause in Beaver Falls; PISGAH at Geneva College; and New Brighton Community Life.

Activities students will help with include cleaning, painting, organizing, sorting clothes and food, landscaping and gardening and repair work. The organizations will provide lunch, as well as explaining the services they provide and how they affect their communities. After the service projects, the students will be given time for debriefing with their mentors. This will allow students to reflect on the day′s experience and consider possible future involvement.
