Beaver Falls, PA - History repeated itself yet again for the Geneva men′s soccer team in the 2009 season opener. For the fourth consecutive season the Golden Tornadoes fell in their season opener and it was a 2-0 deficit at the hands of Penn State Behrend in this year′s opener. The good news for head coach Todd Beall and the Golden Tornadoes is that after dropping the 2008 opener, Geneva ran off ten consecutive victories.

Penn State Behrend notched both goals in the first half with the first coming in the 21st minute and the insurance goal coming on a penalty kick in the 39th minute. The Golden Tornadoes managed only four shots in the match, including only a pair of shots on goal that tested Behrend goalkeeper Dustin Walker. Walker registered the victory and the shutout, but Geneva goalkeeper David Callahan was equally as impressive with four saves to his credit in the loss.

While Geneva fell to 0-1 on the season, Penn State Behrend was also playing its first contest of the new year. The Golden Tornadoes will quickly get back into action on back to back days beginning on Friday with the first round of the Geneva College Invitational. Geneva will match up against Franciscan University on Friday and will then take on Mount Union on Saturday afternoon.
