BATTLEFIELD SPLIT OPENS SEASON

Beaver Falls, PA – The Geneva College volleyball team headed to Gettysburg for the Labor Day weekend to open the 2009 season. On the first night of competition, the Golden Tornadoes had to settle for a two match split. Geneva cruised to a 3-0 victory over Penn State Behrend in the first match, but dropped a 3-1 decision to host Gettysburg in the night cap.

Geneva got solid performances from Adriane Blake at the net and senior setter Brandi Snavely all over the court. Blake led the way with a combined 25 kills in the two matches while Snavely added up 73 assists in the two match split. Rachel Kuegler, who is coming off a spectacular freshman season, started where she left off with ten kills in the victory over Penn State Behrend.

After splitting the first two games against Gettysburg, Geneva dropped the third game 25-13, but responded with a better effort in game four. The Golden Tornadoes came up on the short end of a 27-25 score in the decisive fourth game.

Geneva will continue its run at Gettysburg on Saturday with matches against Richard Stockton and Galluadet. The Golden Tornadoes open their home season next Wednesday against Grove City.
