SECOND PLACE FINISHES FOR MEN AND WOMEN
AT WAYNESBURG INVITATIONAL

Waynesburg, PA - New head cross country Brian Yowler has been talking about how impressive his Geneva team has been the first few weeks of the season. Although they haven′t gotten great results, he has still been pleased with the progress. On Saturday, Yowler finally got some of those results with both his men′s and women′s teams finishing second at the Waynesburg Invitational. Competing against seven other schools in both men′s and women′s action, Geneva gave its finest performance of the young season.

In the women′s race, Geneva posted 74 points and finished behind only Carnegie Mellon, which posted a perfect score of 15. For the third meet in a row, Geneva′s top two female runners came out of the 2009 freshman class. Shannon Reich finished ninth overall with a time of 25:35 while teammate Samantha Miller was 14th at 25:57. The old veteran of the group, Sarah Davis, finished 15th overall in a time of 26:13. Geneva′s women managed to defeat PAC foes Waynesburg, Washington & Jefferson and Chatham.

The Golden Tornadoes men also finished second overall with a final score of 82 points. They also finished behind a perfect Carnegie Mellon score of 15 points. Nick Edinger was Geneva′s top finisher with a 20th place finish and a time of 28:35. Ryan Thorn finished 21st only 3/100 of a second behind Edinger. Meanwhile, Owen Struck came across the line in 24th overall position.

The Golden Tornadoes will enjoy next weekend off before heading to Saint Vincent on September 26th.
