Monaca, PA - The Geneva men′s soccer team has found its defensive stride. The Golden Tornadoes extended their win streak to three and their scoreless streak to 285 minutes with a 3-0 victory over Penn State Beaver on Monday afternoon. Geneva improved its overall record to 5-2 on the strength of its third consecutive shut-out.

Senior goalkeeper David Callahan was not called on to do much on Monday. In fact, he was forced to turn aside only one Penn State Beaver shot on goal. In the process, he picked up his third straight shut-out. It was the Geneva offense that took some time to get moving on Monday, but took advantage of three set pieces for each of the team′s goals.

The Golden Tornadoes capitalized on a corner kick in the 35th minute when Kenton Burckhart′s perfect cross found the head of Caleb Mussleman who knocked it into the back of the net for his first goal of the season. The score remained 1-0 into halftime. Twenty minutes into the second half, the game was halted for nearly 30 minutes when a life flight helicopter was forced to land on the field for a nearby emergency. When the game finally resumed, Geneva took the momentum with a pair of goals from Jake McCracken. McCracken finished another perfect cross from Burckhart before knocking his own direct kick into the net in the final minutes to establish a three goal lead.

Geneva out shot PS-Beaver 31-5 for the game including 15 shots on goal for the match. Monday′s victory opened a four-game road trip for the Golden Tornadoes that will take place over the next two weeks. Geneva is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Muskingum before heading to NCAA Division III national champion Messiah next Tuesday.
