Beaver Falls, PA – All week long Geneva College head football coach Geno DeMarco was preaching a 60 minute effort for his team. Despite DeMarco′s concerns his team entered Saturday with a perfect 2-0 record. The 17-year head coach got his wish on Saturday night as the Golden Tornadoes improved to 3-0 with an impressive 37-13 victory over Thiel College. The win was Geneva′s seventh consecutive victory dating back to last year. It is the longest winning streak since a ten game stint back from 1999-2000. “This was clearly our most complete game of the season,” said DeMarco. “In all three phases of the game we were solid. We have been disappointed about the first two performances but I thought tonight we came to play for the entire 60 minutes.”

The Golden Tornadoes took control of the game early with a pair of touchdowns on their first two drives of the game. Gerard Muschette capped a seven play, 50-yard drive with an 8 yard run. Muschette struck again on a three yard scamper to cap a ten play, 49 yard march late in the first quarter.

Thiel managed to respond with a Dan Hess one yard run late in the second quarter, but a Nick DiPietro 24 yard field goal gave Geneva momentum and a 17-6 lead heading into halftime.

Much like the first half, Geneva quickly established its momentum with 14 third quarter points. Matt Dean scored from three yards out and A.J. Delmonico pulled in a 35 yard catch and run from David Girardi to give the Golden Tornadoes complete control. The two teams traded fourth quarter touchdowns with Dean finding the end zone again on a one-yard plunge to cap the scoring.

Geneva rushed for 129 yards while holding the Tomcats to only 39 yards on the ground. Mushette led the rushing charge with 85 yards on 13 carries. Through the air, Girardi passed for 325 yards on 22-33 and a touchdown. It was Girardi′s first 300-yard effort in his three year career.

The defense forced three more turnovers with interceptions coming from Dom Henderson, a transfer from Thiel College and Aaron Agresta. The Golden Tornadoes have now forced nine turnovers in the first three games. Aaron Tommelleo led the defense with eight tackles including one tackle for loss.

The Golden Tornadoes will get their most difficult test next Saturday when they travel to Washington & Jefferson to battle the President′s in a game featuring a pair of unbeaten teams as W & J improved to 4-0 on Saturday with a victory over Grove City.
