Beaver Falls, PA - The home fans at Geneva College are certainly getting their fill of volleyball these days. For the second consecutive home game and for the third time in four matches, the Golden Tornadoes were forced to five games. Unfortunately, the results have not been kind as Geneva fell for the third time in four matches with a 3-2 loss to Thiel College. The Golden Tornadoes dropped to 15-8 while Thiel improved to 19-7 including its tenth consecutive victory.

The last two five game matches for Geneva had the Golden Tornadoes winning the first two games before being forced to a fifth. On Tuesday night it was Thiel that jumped out to a 2-0 lead but watched Geneva rally in games three and four. The game scores were 25-15, 27-25, 23-25, 21-25, 15-10 as the Golden Tornadoes saw their late rally come up short in the fifth and deciding game.

After Thiel took games one and two, the two teams were tied at 20-20 when a 26 touch rally when in Geneva′s favor. That point turned the momentum and led the Golden Tornadoes to wins in games three and four. Thiel was able to recover by scoring the first four points of game five and never allowing Geneva back in the match.

Adriane Blake led the offense for the fourth straight match with 21 kills on the night. Sophomore Rachel Kuegler added 20 kills in the loss and Maggie Bowersox added nine throw downs. Brandi Snavely had 46 assists and Brianna Mixter had 28 digs to lead the defense.

The Golden Tornadoes will head to the Juniata College Tournament over the weekend with matches against York, Juniata and Carnegie Mellon. The combined records of those three opponents are 51-20. Geneva returns to Metheny Fieldhouse next Tuesday to take on Westminster College.
