Crestview Hills, KY - The Geneva College women′s basketball team faced its biggest challenge of the season on the second day of the New Year. The Golden Tornadoes dropped a 70-57 decision to ninth ranked and two-time defending conference champion Thomas More. Geneva fell to 5-6 on the season while the Saints improved to 10-1.

After four minutes, it appeared as though Geneva would be in for a world of hurt on Saturday afternoon as Thomas More opened the game with the first 12 points. Opening up a 24-7 lead midway through the first half, Thomas More was unable to put Geneva away as the Golden Tornadoes went into the halftime break trailing by 15 points. Renee Rawding′s three-point field goal to open the second half cut the Thomas More lead to just 12 points but Geneva could net draw any closer. However, the Golden Tornadoes did out score Thomas More 35-33 in the final 20 minutes of action. "Obviously this is a very good basketball team," said head coach Renee Drake. "We had a tough start and they were able to take advantage of it. But we responded well and played them pretty even for the final 34 or 35 minutes of the game."

A common theme for its losses this season has been Geneva′s turnover totals. The same was true on Saturday with 28 Golden Tornado turnovers. Geneva is still in search of its first conference road victory having fallen for the third straight time on the road within the PAC.

Geneva shot 42% from the field for the game and was very balanced on offense with only one player reaching double figures. Freshman Leah Prisuta made her first three shots of the game and finished with a team best ten points. Rachel Barry added nine points and Alyse Scarsella checked in with eight points in the loss.

The Golden Tornadoes return to Metheny Fieldhouse next Thursday night to host Saint Vincent College at 6 pm.
