Greenville, PA - Geneva′s women′s basketball team came out in the first few minutes against Thiel like a very confident basketball team. An uncommon characteristic for a team that has yet to win a road game this season, the Golden Tornadoes opened the game with ten of the first 12 points against the Tomcats. The good vibes, however, did not continue as Geneva could not maintain its momentum in a 57-53 loss to Thiel. The loss was the seventh in eight games for Geneva as it dropped to 6-12 on the season, including a 0-9 mark on the road.

Following its fast start, Geneva watched Thiel gradually get back into the game and by the halftime buzzer, the Tomcats had regained a 34-28 lead. The Golden Tornadoes were never able to grab the lead in the second half despite cutting the deficit to just three with only a minute remaining in the game. A missed one and one by Thiel opened the door for the Golden Tornadoes, but a late turnover never allowed the game tying shot to take place and Thiel iced the game away at the foul line.

For the third consecutive game, sophomore Alyse Scarsella led Geneva′s offense. On this night, Scarsella posted 19 points and six rebounds ending her back to back streak of consecutive double-doubles. Val Hamilton added ten points and nine rebounds while senior Renee Rawding was Geneva′s other player to finish in double figures with ten points.

"We had a great start," said head coach Renee Rawding. "We were playing with great confidence on both ends of the floor, but we were not able to maintain that effort for 40 minutes. Turnovers have hurt us all year and we made a few mistakes at inopportune times throughout the game, especially down the stretch."

Geneva will return home on Saturday afternoon to face Bethany College at 1 pm in another Presidents′ Athletic Conference showdown. The Golden Tornadoes will look to even the season series after dropping a 60-55 decision in West Virginia earlier this season.
