Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s Bryan Hill has made a living of beating the Metheny Fieldhouse clock with last second heroics throughout his career. Hill knocked down a three-point field goal that tied the game with Thomas More, but the Golden Tornadoes left too much time on the clock. The Saints turned to Daniel Neeley, who supplied the game winning three pointer with just over five seconds remaining in regulation. Neeley′s shot proved to be the difference in a 92-89 victory over Geneva. The Golden Tornadoes had rallied from 15 points down in the second half to finally draw even on Hill′s three-pointer. The loss was Geneva′s third straight and dropped Geneva′s overall record to 11-10 with Thomas More improving to 15-5.
Thomas More came into action averaging close to 87 points per game and with five minutes remaining in regulation in appeared the Saints may reach triple digits for the second time this season against Geneva. The Golden Tornadoes shut the Thomas More attack down in the final minutes while scoring eight straight points to tie the game helped by Hill′s shooting and a technical foul on the Thomas More bench. "Our guys battled until the final buzzer," said head coach Jeff Santarsiero. "There were times in the second half that we could have packed it in but the effort never wavered."
Geneva got 21 points from Rich Colick on 7-13 shooting from the field. He was joined in double figures by four of his teammates. Bryan Hill finished with 17 points including a 5-7 effort from three-point range. Nate Reep chipped in with 12 points on 6-7 shooting from the field while Brandon Harvey and Dave Phillips each supplied ten points. The night started with Reep making his first start of the year and Hill starting for just the second time. Based on the final numbers, the move by head coach Jeff Santarsiero paid off. "We were just looking for a spark from those guys," said Santarsiero. "They each played another solid game and we got contributions from a lot of people."
Just one game over .500 for the season, Geneva must win two of its final four games to qualify for the NCCAA post-season. The Golden Tornadoes travel to Saint Vincent on Saturday night before returning home on February 13th to host Grove City at 7:30 pm.
