Beaver Falls, PA - It appeared the team with the ball on the final possession would end up with a victory. As it turned out, Geneva and Grove City needed five extra minutes to determine a winner as the Wolverines prevailed 92-82 in overtime. The Golden Tornadoes fell to 12-11 on the season while Grove City improved to 15-8.

The first half featured a series of runs with the game opening with a 19-5 Grove City lead. Over the next ten minutes, Geneva put together a 33-7 run that opened up a 38-26 lead only to see the Wolverines respond in kind. Grove City ended the half on a 13-0 spurt that resulted in a 39-38 lead at the break.

The second half was a see-saw affair that saw Grove City take a two-point lead in the final seconds of regulation. A Grove City foul sent Bryan Hill to the line where he sank both free throws to tie the game with four seconds left. A desperation shot bounced out for the Wolverines and the game went to overtime. "We really fought back to get even" said head coach Jeff Santarsiero. "We knew it was going down to the wire. It always is a close game against this team."

After Rich Colick scored the first bucket of overtime, Grove City went on a 10-0 run that sealed the game. "We made three critical defensive mistakes in overtime and they took advantage." Grove City′s Brett Matson was the main culprit with 28 points including three treys in the overtime session. Matson got help from Andy O′Keefe′s 26 points and 10-11 effort from the foul line which helped to seal the win in overtime.

The Golden Tornadoes got 21 points from Rich Colick and 19 from Bryan Hill. Hill nailed five three point field goals in the game, but missed a pair of critical attempts late in regulation that could have put Geneva over the edge.

Grove City managed a season split with Geneva after falling to the Golden Tornadoes on its home court back in January. As for the Golden Tornadoes, they will look for that elusive one more victory to qualify for the NCCAA post-season. On Wednesday, Geneva closes out the home schedule against Westminster at 8 pm. The regular season finale is scheduled for next Saturday night at Waynesburg.
