Cedarville, OH - The indoor track and field season for Geneva College only lasts a bit over a month. On Saturday, the shortened season came to an end with 15 student-athletes competing at the NCCAA national meet at Cedarville University. For interim head coach Brian Yowler it has never been about results but rather constant improvement from a very youthful group. That maturation process continued on Saturday as the final totals didn′t amount to much for the men′s and women′s team but the experience gained on the national stage could not be measured. "It is always exciting to see the hard work pay off for some of our athletes," said Yowler. "Having a chance to compete against some of the best athletes in the country gives our kids a true understanding of what can be accomplished and where our goals should be moving forward."

Geneva′s women only posted two points during the day′s activities with both coming on a seventh place finish in the distance medley. Teammates Sarah Davis, Aisha Moore, Julia Urbanski and Shannon Rech finished the medley with a mark of 13:35.29 which was good enough for seventh place and the only two points of the day for Geneva′s women.

The men′s team faired a bit better on the results sheet with a ten point total at the end of the day. Seven of those points came in the shot put event where Dan Dillman and Tyler French finished fifth and sixth respectively. Dillman′s fifth place finish and 45′10.5" performance was good enough for four points while French registered three points with his 44′3.5" effort.

Stephen Polite may have enjoyed the best result of the day with a seventh place finish in a very competitive triple jump field. Polite′s seventh place distance was 40′10.5" which was good enough for a pair of points on the overall total. Finally, the Geneva 4 x 200 men′s relay team finished seventh overall. The team of Josh Politt, Matt Susa, Shaka Sydnor and Corey Fraction were solid for the Golden Tornadoes.

"It was a nice way to finish our indoor season," said Yowler. "We are all about growth and experience and this was a very productive day. We will now set our sights on the outdoor season that is set to begin next month."

Geneva′s outdoor season is scheduled to open up at Grove City College with a meet on March 23rd.
