Monaca, PA - Geneva′s softball team could not have played any better in the first of two games against Penn State Beaver on Wednesday. The Golden Tornadoes cruised to an 8-0, 5 inning victory over the Lions on the strength of no-hit pitching from sophomore Julie DiLonardo. It was the first Geneva no-hitter since 1998 as the Golden Tornadoes took care of business in game one of the doubleheader. Game two turned out quite different as the Geneva bats went somewhat quiet in a 6-3 loss to the Lions. The doubleheader split left Geneva sitting at 6-10 for the season.

In game one, the Golden Tornadoes broke open the game with seven runs in the second inning. DiLonardo, the star on the mound, got the offense going with her second home run of the season. Later in the inning, Adriane Blake launched a three-run homer to highlight the seven run rally. Leah Prisuta also had a hand in driving in a pair on a single in the second inning. Those runs were more than enough for DiLonardo who went all five innings and allowed only a one-out walk in the fifth as the only Lion′s baserunner. She struck out four in picking up her fifth win of the season. Geneva had eight hits in the victory including a pair from Samantha Bautista.

In the night cap, Penn State scored two in the first and another in the second to open a 3-0 lead. Geneva rallied back with a pair of runs in the third inning on RBI hits from Blake and Bautista. The Lions cashed in on a three run homer in the bottom of the third to extend the lead. Morgan D′Eramo′s RBI single in the sixth was too little, too late for Geneva who could not get back into the game.

The Golden Tornadoes will open the home portion of their schedule on Saturday when they host Ursuline at 1 pm in a doubleheader.
