Latrobe, PA - The weather forecast called for dreary skies and rain all day on Saturday but as it turned out the only dreariness came as a result of Geneva′s doubleheader loss to Saint Vincent College. The two losses by scores of 5-4 and 9-2 ended Geneva′s six game win streak and dropped its overall record to 19-15.
Game one saw Geneva′s first loss after holding sixth inning lead all season. The Golden Tornadoes watched a 4-2 lead disappear in the final two innings as the Bearcats struck for a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to hand Julie DiLonardo her first loss in 12 decisions. DiLonardo fell to 17-8 on the season after surrendering ten Saint Vincent hits. Geneva opened the scoring in the bottom of the third on three consecutive singles from Martha Adams, Samantha Michetti and Adriane Blake. Saint Vincent scored a pair in the top of the fifth before Geneva struck for three runs in the bottom of the frame. Leanne Abate knocked in a pair with a two-out single and Samantha Bautisa plated the fourth run to give Geneva a two-run lead heading into the final two innings.
Game two was decided early as Saint Vincent posted five runs, all of which were unearned, in the first inning. The Bearcats took advantage of three Geneva errors in the opening frame to plate five runs. The Golden Tornadoes had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on and Adriane Blake base hit. Geneva′s other run came in the third on a Leanne Abate base hit. Ariel Lilly got the start and the hard luck loss by allowing seven runs, but only one earned run in the game. Geneva had eight hits in both ends of the doubleheader with Martha Adams and Leah Prisuta picking up two hits each in the night cap.
Geneva has four games remaining on the regular season schedule beginning with a doubleheader at Thiel on Wednesday. The Golden Tornadoes will host Waynesburg on Saturday in the regular season finale.
