Geneva College is pleased to report that the incoming class of 2014 is a large one; the new class of students arriving in fall of 2010 is expected to be almost 20% larger than last year′s class of new students.
"While these are challenging economic times, we know that a quality Christ-centered higher education is more important than ever to prepare young people to serve in His kingdom," notes Geneva President Ken Smith. "Our admissions and financial aid counselors have worked closely with prospective students and their parents to help make a Geneva education possible. We praise God for bringing an abundance of talented, bright students here this fall."
As a result of the influx of new students and retention of current students, about 90 incoming young men and women have been given temporary room assignments, with the plan to move many of them into standard accommodations as they′re available. To compensate them for any inconvenience, all students living in temporary arrangements will receive $50 a week until a permanent solution is available.
Students with temporary assignments will be offered permanent spaces as they become available, based on the date students confirmed their place at Geneva. When a permanent placement is offered, all the students in a room may agree to continue living together, but weekly payments will no longer be made.
"We have run temporary housing programs with great success over the past few years and I anticipate this year being no different. Our experience is that even when students have the opportunity to move out of the temporary housing, they often don′t do it." says Director of Residence Life Paul Perrine. "We hope that the large size of the incoming class, the high retention rate of our upper-class students and the monetary compensation which many of our sister institutions don′t provide will serve as confirmation that students made the right choice in choosing to come to Geneva."
Geneva is employing three different temporary means of housing students. The Plus One program continues this year, providing opportunity for upper-class students living in Young Hall, Geneva Arms and Schoolhouse to host a new student, with apartments holding up to seven students.
With the new G3! Program, there will be select three-student rooms in McKee, Memorial and Pearce Halls. Diagrams of furniture in these rooms can be found through the links below.
In Memorial and Clarke Halls, large private areas are being converted into rooms for six and eight students, respectively. These area will have all the features of a regular room as well as extra such as cable television.
