Football team from Community Night 2009

Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva College and the Golden Tornadoes football program tried a test run with the 2009 Community Night promotion to kick off the football season a year ago. It turned out to be a ringing success as there was no admission fee charged and a capacity crowd of over 6,000 people packed Reeves Field to watch Geneva defeat Frostburg State University 41-28. As the saying goes, “If it ain′t broke, don′t fix it.” The 2010 Geneva football season kicked off last week on the road with a 32-27 win at Frostburg State. This Saturday, the Golden Tornadoes return to Reeves Field for the 2010 home opener and will again be looking forward to a large crowd to ring in the new football campaign.

Like last year, the home opener has been dubbed Community Night and features free admission to all fans for the 7 p.m. kickoff against Albright College. In addition, Beaver Falls chief of police Mick Jones will serve as the honorary captain and will be present at the coin toss prior to the kickoff.

On the field, Geneva will be handed a pretty stern test against an Albright club that advanced to the NCAA Division III sweet sixteen a year ago before bowing out to Mt. Union College. “This is a very good football team we are playing,” said head coach Geno DeMarco. “The fact that it is also community night just adds to the misery. I have been telling all of my friends and family to stay home and watch Penn State.” DeMarco is of course tongue and cheek in his comments as he would again expect the Valley to turn out in droves to support a Geneva team that finished the 2009 season with an 8-3 record and its fifth NCCAA Victory Bowl title.

The Golden Tornadoes will be right back on their home field next Saturday when they host two-time defending PAC champion Thomas More for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff. Next Saturday, the Golden Tornadoes will celebrate the decade of the 1970′s and welcome back football alumni and coaches from that era.
