Latrobe, PA - The Geneva College cross country teams have been away from action for two weeks and head coach Brian Yowler took that opportunity to put his group through the toughest training week of the season. The second year head coach knew it may take its toll on the Saturday times, but he also knows his team must be prepared for the post-season stretch run that is right around the corner. The Golden Tornadoes traveled to Saint Vincent College on Saturday and despite the difficult week of training gave a very solid showing.

The men′s team stole the show with a second place overall finish behind only the host Bearcats. Geneva had a total of 91 points with all five of its top runners finishing in the top 35 out of 91 runners. Sophomore Nick Edinger led the Geneva contingent with a third place finish in a time of 27:03. Jon Shope crossed the line in 16th position while teammates Ryan Thorn (20), Owen Struck (26) and Jacob Beschner (34) each had solid mornings. Geneva′s sixth finisher, Andrew Maienshein, had a big day with a personal best time of 29:31, which trimmed more than a minute and a half off of his best time.

The Geneva women′s team was without two of its top runners on Saturday but still managed a fourth place finish 136 points. Alayna Merkle (7) and Julia Urbanski (8) stepped into key roles and came up big for the Golden Tornadoes. Teammate Sarah Davis also enjoyed a great day with a 30th place finish as Geneva′s number three runner.

Another week off for Geneva will follow a trip to Carnegie Mellon on October 9th and Oberlin College on the 16th.
