Beaver Falls, PA - It was an offensive showcase on display at Reeves Field on Saturday evening as Geneva College and Waynesburg University paired up to put more points on the board than ever before seen in the 120 year history of Geneva College. Waynesburg came away with a 55-42 victory and the 97 combined points broke the single game record of 93 points that was set in 1980.

The loss dropped Geneva′s record to 3-3 while Waynesburg improved to 3-2 on the season. The Golden Tornadoes are still in search of their first home win falling to 0-3 on the home turf with a 3-0 mark away from Reeves Field.

The first quarter looked more like a video game with both teams running up and down the field. After six total possessions, each team had put the ball in the end zone three times. After each Waynesburg touchdown, Geneva′s Gerard Muschette answered with a score of his own. Muschette scored on a pair of 16 yard runs and a nine yard reception from David Girardi that resulted in a 21-21 tie early in the second quarter. Waynesburg′s defense stiffened as the Yellowjackets scored the next 24 points to open up a 45-21 advantage near the end of the third quarter. Muschette scored on two more second half touchdowns as he tied the school record with five touchdowns in all to go along with his 226 yards rushing and 38 yards receiving.

While Muschette enjoyed another career day, it was the Waynesburg offense that was also on display. The Golden Tornadoes were never able to come up with any defensive answers as the Yellowjackets racked up 539 yards of total offense including 341 yards through the air of 19-30 passing from quarterback Brad Dawson. Giardi, the PAC′s leading passer connected for 25-45 through the air for 261 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Geneva′s final score of the day came from the legs of red shirt freshman Zach Hayward, who rushed one in from seven yards out to close out the scoring late in the fourth quarter. An unsuccessful on side kick ended Geneva′s late threat as the Golden Tornadoes came up short for the third time on their home field.

Geneva heads back to the road next Saturday night when it visits Grove City at 7 pm. The Golden Tornadoes will look for their first home win two weeks from today when they face Washington & Jefferson in a 7 pm kickoff.
