GENEVA COLLEGE (3-3)

@

GROVE CITY COLLEGE (2-3)

Robert E. Thorn Field

October 16, 2010 - 7 pm

The physical plant staff at Grove City College best be on call Saturday night with extra bulbs for the football scoreboard with Geneva College coming to town. The Golden Tornadoes have shown a propensity to light up every scoreboard they have seen in 2010. With one of the top offenses in the PAC along with the highest scoring defense in the conference, this Saturday night could prove to be the next edition of run and gun. The Golden Tornadoes are coming off the highest combined scoring game in the 120 year history of Geneva football. A 55-42 loss to Waynesburg on homecoming a week ago once again highlighted the explosive offense and the suspect defense of the Golden Tornadoes.

One thing remains a constant for Geneva College and that is the production of senior running back Gerard Muschette. Becoming just the fourth running back to surpass the 3000 yard mark for his career, Muschette put on a show for the home folks last week with a career best five touchdowns and another 200+ yard rushing performance. Muschette is just two touchdowns shy of tying Geneva′s all-time record of 41 set by all-time leading rusher Melvin Cobbs. Cobbs is currently 697 yards ahead of Muschette for rushing yardage.

While Muschette is far and away leading the PAC in rushing, senior quarterback David Girardi continues to set the passing pace in the conference. Averaging nearly 260 yards passing per game, Girardi has clicked on 62% of his passes this season. His favorite target has been AJ Delmonico with 37 receptions while Corey O′Patchen leads the conference with 114.4 yards receiving per game.

Grove City comes into action having dropped back to back games to Waynesburg and Thomas More. The Wolverines are 2-3 and will be looking for their first home victory of the season while Geneva comes into action with a perfect 3-0 mark on the road. Grove City′s offense has struggled at times and is averaging under 19 points per game. Zach Gross has gotten the majority of snaps at quarterback and has thrown four touchdown passes this year while completing under 45% of his passes. On the ground, Clayton Hall is averaging 108.3 yards per game to lead the Wolverines.

Defensively, the Wolverines are giving up around 26 points per game while Geneva′s defense ranks last in the conference allowing 38 points per game. Gary Walstrom and Marcus Costanza lead the defense with 43 tackles each while Grove City′s Vince Angelo and Jason Ferguson each have a team best 37 tackles.

NOTES: The Geneva and Grove City rivalry dates back to 1893 as the two teams have met 81 times prior to this game. Geneva holds a 41-34-7 advantage over the Wolverines including a 34-17 victory a year ago. In that win, Gerard Muschette rushed for 219 yards and picked up three second half touchdowns to put the game away. Geneva will return home next Saturday in search of its first home victory of the season when it welcomes Washington & Jefferson to Reeves Field for a 7 pm kickoff. Prior to the Geneva game, the Beaver County Youth Football League will be holding the first annual Geneva bowl with a pair of games earlier in the day. The Brighton Township mighty mites and termites will be competing against Hopewell in games scheduled to begin at noon and 2 pm. All Beaver County youth players and cheerleaders will be admitted free of charge for the Geneva game that night.
