Oberlin, OH - Geneva College head cross country coach Brian Yowler has been trying to get the Golden Tornadoes to compete at the Oberlin College meet for a few years. Scheduling conflicts have always kept Geneva out of one of the biggest meets of the year until 2010. On Saturday, Geneva College went up against some of the finest cross country programs in the region in perhaps the biggest Division III meet in this part of the country. Final results were not the main objective for Yowler and his team but competing at a high level was paramount as the Golden Tornadoes are just two weeks away from the Presidents′ Athletic Conference championships.

With exactly 504 men and women opening the 8K and 6K races, the competition was as great as Geneva has faced all year. A total of 31 men′s teams and 26 women′s team made the trek to Oberlin at the start of the day. Geneva′s men finished the meet in 28th overall place with 735 total points. Nick Edinger was Geneva′s top finisher with an 84th place slot and a time of 26:40. Ryan Thorn (144) and Jon Shope (146) were Geneva′s next finishers in a field that featured a total of 284 racers.

In women′s action, Geneva finished with 505 points and a 17th place showing. Julia Urbanski finished 68th to lead the Geneva women with a time of 23:47 on the 6K course. Teammates Alayna Merkle (80) and Shannon Rech (100) also broke the top 100 in a field of 219 runners.

Next weekend, the Golden Tornadoes will enjoy an off weekend to rest their weary legs in preparation of the PAC championships coming up on October 30th.
