Latrobe, PA - Any record that stands for 24 years must have been an impressive one and even more difficult to surpass. On Tuesday night, the Geneva College volleyball team broke the single season record for victories by cruising past Saint Vincent by the score of 3-0. With the win, Geneva moved its overall mark to 24-5 and in the process breaking the old mark of 23 wins that has stood since 1986. Geneva spoiled Saint Vincent′s senior day festivities with scores of 25-22, 25-20, 25-22.

The Bearcats tried to rally after dropping the first two games by jumping out to a 19-14 lead in game three. Senior all-American Adriane Blake decided she really didn′t want to play a fourth game and notched eight of her team best 18 kills on her final 12 swings of the night. Geneva rallied back and took game three to complete the sweep.

In addition to Blake′s big night, Rachel Kuegler added seven kills and Maggie Bowersox chipped in with six kills and a team best five blocks. Brianna Mixter came away with 23 digs with Deanna Briody leading the offense with 39 assists.

"This is a special night for these kids," said co head coach Wendy Smith. "They have all worked extremely hard this year and this is a very well deserved record. We are thrilled with what has been accomplished and we can hopefully turn that success into something special in the post-season."

Geneva will close out the regular season with the home finale against Grove City on Thursday and the final road match of the year on Saturday against Westminster. Geneva will then have to wait for over two weeks to find out if it has done enough to warrant an at-large bid to the NCCAA national tournament, which would be a first in school history.
