Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva College women′s basketball team has never beaten Thomas More in the short four year history of the series. On Monday night, the Golden Tornadoes gave the Saints a good run in the first half but the defending PAC champions ran away from Geneva in the final 20 minutes for a 64-35 victory. The loss dropped Geneva to 6-5 while Thomas More, ranked eighth in NCAA Division III, remained unbeaten at 11-0 for the season.

The Saints jumped all over Geneva in the first four minutes of the game to grab an 11-0 lead. But the Golden Tornadoes battled back and by the end of the first half trailed the unbeaten Saints by just five points at 24-19.

Much like the first half; however, the Saints took control in the opening moments of half number two and ran off the first ten points en route to a 15-1 run to open the second half. Thomas More never looked back and never allowed Geneva to get back into the game. "We really battled them hard in the first half," said head coach Renee Drake. "We had a great defensive effort in the first half and were limiting their opportunities by controlling the glass. We let them get into their game in the second half and we made too many mistakes on the offensive end of the floor."

Geneva managed just four second half field goals and shot 18% from the field in the final 20 minutes. For the game, the Golden Tornadoes shot 26% and were 1-10 from three-point range in the second half. Meanwhile, Thomas More caught fire and connected on 54% of its shots in the second half in outscoring the Golden Tornadoes 40-16. "They have a great team and they know how to win games," said Drake. "It is a good measuring stick for our program and about the midway point to our season."

Geneva did not have any players reach double figures and got a team high eight points from Valerie Hamilton. Christine Carugati added seven points in the loss. Nicole Dickman, who scored the first nine points in the second half, ended with a game high 16 points.

The Golden Tornadoes will take to the road against Saint Vincent on Thursday and Chatham on Saturday. Geneva returns home next Wednesday to face Grove City.
