Latrobe, PA - Basketball can be a funny game. Just three days ago the Geneva College men′s basketball team could do no wrong in a 29 point dismantling of Thomas More. On Thursday night, the Golden Tornadoes could not find their shooting touch as the Bearcats turned the tables in defeating Geneva by the score of 73-65. The loss dropped Geneva to 9-4 on the season while the Bearcats improved to 8-5.

Geneva has relied heavily on its perimeter shooting throughout the first half of the season. On Thursday night, the long distance shots were not falling with normal regularity. In fact, Geneva managed to connect on only five three-point field goals and shot 24% from behind the arc for the game. The Bearcats were 6-12 from long distance in the first half in opening up a 43-31 lead at the break. "We did not defend the perimeter like we had hoped to do," said Geneva head coach Jeff Santarsiero. "We have been getting some offensive answers in recent games but we just didn′t have enough tonight. Saint Vincent played very well and we fell too far behind in the first half and could not recover."
Geneva twice cut the lead to six points in the closing minutes but was unable to pull any closer due to Saint Vincent′s ability to put the game away at the free throw line. The Bearcats hit on 13-19 from the free throw line including a few key shots down the stretch. "We had some chances down the stretch but every time we cut the lead to six we turned the ball over and they took advantage. It just wasn′t meant to be."

The Golden Tornadoes got 21 points from Rich Colick and 20 points from David Phillips. Each player connected on 7-13 from the field with Colick also pulling down six rebounds. Bryce Salomone scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds off the bench for Geneva. Saint Vincent got 22 points each from Dennis Bassich and BJ McGill in the victory.

Geneva will enjoy a weekend away from the court before back to back home games against a pair of familiar foes next week. The Golden Tornadoes host Grove City on Wednesday and welcome Westminster to Metheny Fieldhouse next Saturday afternoon.
